Hindu Amulet with Ancient Carnelian Beads

These ancient carnelian beads originated in India and were traded to Mali in the 17th/18th century, only to be excavated in the great city of Djenne in this century. The beads have the rough and beautiful textures only seen in ancient beads that were hand hewn and drilled from the original found stones. Combined with the beads is an old silver amulet from India depicting the protective goddesses in the Hindu religion. The necklace is strung and knotted on silk.
