Antique Burmese Puppet Head

This is a fine example of a traditional Burmese puppet from the late 19th/early 20th century. The head, carved from wood, painted, and with inset glass eyes has further been adorned with a traditional hat embedded with mercury glass. Remnants of his beard still hang from his chin and a few of the original strings that would have moved the marionette are still attached. The head has been mounted on a base with a long stem to present the head in a wonderful manner. This is a great item reflective of the rich artistic craft of the Burmese.

Measurements: Head is approx. 4" (w/o beard), with stand it is 11 3/4" tall
