The Hilltribe group known as the Mien, or Yao, from Laos and Thailand are known for their beautiful embroidery on hand woven black or indigo cotton cloth. This is an ornate apron also used as a baby carrier worn for special occasions. It is a very deep indigo cotton with beautiful intricate cross-stitched embroidery, and further adorned with the Mien's typical pompoms and tassels. The apron, approximately 30-40 years old, has a few indigenous repair patches and only shows typical wear from a vintage textile.
