19th c. Wood Retablo "La Piedad"

This is a fine 19th c. depiction of La Piedad, or La Lamentacion, showing Christ descended from the cross, held in the arms of San Juan Bautista with the Virgen Dolorosa and San Geronimo. The image of the Virgen Dolorosa, or Santa Maria, is beautiful with the sword of sorrow piercing her heart. The body of Christ is rendered beautifully. There is expected loss to the edges of the wood retablo, and it could be cleaned if the new owner wished. The retablo is a wonderful treasure of Spanish colonial art in the "new world".
