19th C. Inscribed Spanish Colonial Virgen del Patrocinio This is a fine large retablo, or lamina from Bolivia. The image of the Virgen and Child is finely painted with oil on tin using pan de plata, or silver based paint on the urns and exterior flourishes. The crossed swords and military hat are the identifying attributes of this beautiful Virgin. She is in fine condition with minimal loss of paint. This retablo is a beautiful devotional piece, deeply rooted in Spanish Colonial history and is an important facet of culture and religion in the New World. Measurement: 14" x 10" #22607 $1990 |
