Long Laotian Silk Dowry Textile

This exquisite textile is from Laos and is woven entirely of silk with silk embroidered traditional designs. This was probably a bed curtain border woven by one of the various Tai groups of Laos, Vietnam and Thailand. Typically these are woven as part of the ceremonial life of this culture, particularly an important part of a bride's dowry. This fine textile is probably about 40-50 years old and shows some indigenous repair work and minor fading, typical of a textile of this age. This is a wonderful find for a collector of textiles or SE Asian art.
