Old Burmese Carved Oxcart Decoration with Mythical Buddhist Nat

The Burmese have a long tradition of decorating their oxcarts with wonderful sculptures that reflect their culture and mythology. This beautifully carved oxcart decoration depicts a carved female nat. The decoration is carved completely from one piece of wood; there is minor splitting to the side where the wood is joined to the metal tube, but appears to be stable (detail below). The carving has been mounted on a metal museum stand.
