Antique Burmese Palm Leaf Manuscript
This is a beautiful and complete palm leaf manuscript from Burma dating to the late 19th, early 20th century. The book, which contains studies in astrology, numerology and sacred Buddhist texts, is written in both Shan and Pali. The manuscript consists of approximately 100 palm leaf pages which have been incised by an iron stylus and darkened with pigment or soot. A few of the leaves near the lacquered wood covers are partials, and the cord that passes through the leaves appears to be a replacement from a later date. The pages have been inscribed on both sides and contain numerous wonderful illustrations, only a few are detailed below. This is a rare and wonderful find for any collector of SE Asian antiques.
