Antique Spanish Colonial Leather Gun Rig and Holster

This is a beautiful and rare old holster belt, or rig, from the gaucho culture in Southern Bolivia near Argentina. These types of holsters were used primarily by wealthy ranchers and businessmen who could afford fine horses and elaborate costumes. This tradition dates back to the Spanish land grants and estancias of the colonists. The leather is soft natural cowhide with the addition of elaborate metal (silver wash over copper) detailing as well as the central large religious sacred heart ex voto with an old Boliviano coin tucked behind it. There are 3 initials stamped into the back side of the buckle, undoubtedly the original owner. The rig is in good used condition with only some of the silver worn away and missing one of the scrolls next to the Sacred Heart. This is an amazing and beautiful treasure from South America!
