Antique Spanish Colonial San Pedro Santo

This is a wonderful depiction of San Pedro, or Saint Peter from South America. The Santo has been beautifully carved from wood and polychromed. His robes from the waist down (under the outer garment) are formed from stiffened cloth over a wood frame. The original outer garment is sewn from a tightly woven lightweight cotton with lace edging. San Pedro's face is beautifully painted and adorned with glass eyes and handpainted eyelashes, a common motif at the turn of the century. The Spanish colonial silver crown and book are original to him - a wonderful representation of this Spanish Colonial Santo.
