Antique Spanish Colonial Escudo de Monja, Nun's Relicario

Presented is an exquisite large relicario that once belonged to a Mother Superior in a Bolivian convent outside of La Paz. The large double sided relicario is painted oil on metal and depicts Jesus on one side and the coronation of the Virgin surrounded by the Holy Trinity on the verso. The relicario, also known as an Escudo de Monja, is in the original high content silver hand constructed case. The quality of this 19th century relicario is wonderful with minor paint loss, and the size makes this a highly collectible devotional item. This is a rare and wonderful Spanish colonial silver treasure from South America!
