Old Spanish Colonial Angel

This is a wonderful carved angel circa 1940's from South America. This unique angel is beautifully carved from wood with one wing wrapping gently upward, covered in gesso, and painted with the addition of pan de oro gilt for the wings (the back is not painted). The addition of the beautiful glass eyes makes this a wonderful treasure.  The angel most likely adorned a wall at one time, perhaps a chapel. The angel is in wonderful condition with a sweet face and presence.
