19th c. Spanish Colonial Oil on Panel Retablos

These are two fine oil on wood (tabla) retablos from a church in Bolivia. Once adorning a nicho in a church in Potosí, these beautiful doors protected the Santo figure that would have been displayed inside. Two archangels are featured on the top, with San Pedro, or Saint Peter with his attribute keys and San Paolo, or Saint Paul with his book and sword. The retablos are in fine condition with very minimal loss. The reverse sides appear to have been painted at a later date and have significant loss of paint as seen in the details below. The retablos are beautiful treaures reflective of the fine art of Spanish colonial America.

Measurements: Each panel is 13  3/4" x 5" (34.9 cm x 12.77 cm)
