Antique Spanish Colonial Retablo

This is a superb depiction of the Crowned Virgen Madonna holding the Christ Niño Child. The South American retablo, or lamina, is executed in an early 19th century style with billowing clouds and a neo-classical style to the dress. The retablo, with its unfinished edges was probably inset into a wooden frame at one time. There is minor loss to the paint, and the holes at the top of the retablo have been filled in, otherwise the condition is excellent. This retablo is a beautiful representation of colonial Spanish religious art in the New World.
