19th Century San Pedro Con Capa

This santo represents San Pedro, or Saint Peter the Martyr (also known as San Pedro de Verona). San Pedro was an inspiring teacher in the early 13th century, symbolized by the bible in his left hand. He was martyred on the road by a knife to his head, which is represented in this carving by a small groove where the knife used to kill him once rested. This finely painted santo is decoratively painted with gilt and also bears a removable cape (capa) with delicate embroidery.

Measurements: 14" ( 35.56 cm) high
